| Portable Document Format, or PDF as it is commonly known, is a technology developed by Adobe Systems. It allows print documents, such as this report, to be compressed into portable electronic files directly from the original documents. The files can then be viewed using Adobe Acrobat Reader™, available free on the Adobe web site.
The basic JPEG standard, which defines many options and alternatives for the coding of still images of photographic quality.
All downloads open automatically in new windows. One multimedia viewer program is available from IrfanView.com (get the EXIF plugin if you use a digital camera and want to see some of the extra data your camera records with each image). If you make this a default viewer, please note that all JPEG image icons will also acquire a new 'IrfanView' logo. It also supports some parts of the new JPEG 2000 standard. The right mouse button has a function: to save the current document to disk, click on "File...", then "Save As...". In the dialog box that appears, notice that "Save File as type:" is set to "Source (*.pdf) or (*.jpg)" by default. Adobe Acrobat Reader and IrfanView are Freeware. Freeware means that the software can be used free of charge and that no registration is necessary. |
